With unconventional, provocative color combinations in acrylics, pastels, oils, and watercolors, Ser Ashby explores frankly an at-once personal and universal struggle with anger, passion, and the quest for that peace which only comes through reconciliation to our perfect Creator. Her bright and whimsical studies of lovers, landscapes, and nature, while at times verging on the fantastic and surreal, consistently reflect a love for all that is beautiful, while acknowledging a kinship with the disquieting. Some of the works on this site were inspired by the indigenous peoples of Mexico, where the artist worked for several years.

Although born in Virginia, the artist has lived in Texas most of her life. Most recently, after spending some time in Russia, she moved to Tennessee, where she currently resides near Memphis. She holds a B.A. in English and Spanish and M.A. in Linguistics. Her works, including many on this site, have been exhibited in Texas and South Carolina.
